چکیده

It is standardpractice to use log-linear and log-log regression models in the analysis of workers compensation claim costs. While useful for the investigation of-proportional cost relationships, those transformed models are not well suited for predicting individual or even average claim costs. There is, however, enormous potential for using regression equations as a computational device for generating tabular reserves andfor benchmarking select sets of claim costs. This paper suggests that changing the assigned weights of observations in the determination of the logged cost model can improve its predicted values for conversion back to a dollar scale. The derivation of a spectfic reweighting formula is motivatedfiom the basic data$tting geometry of OLS regression. The technique is tested via a simulation and on a large database of actual workers compensation lost time claims. Both show a marked improvement in the claim cost estimates determinedfiom the modified regression equations.

NON-FRAGILE GUARANTEED COST CONTROL OF T-S FUZZY TIME-VARYING DELAY SYSTEMS WITH LOCAL BILINEAR MODELS

This paper focuses on the non-fragile guaranteed cost control problem for a class of T-S fuzzy time-varying delay systems with local bilinear models. The objective is to design a non-fragile guaranteed cost state feedback controller via the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) approach such that the closed-loop system is delay-dependent asymptotically stable and the closed-loop performance i...

Monitoring Cost Changes with Log-Linear Cost Models: Lessons from a Case Study

When studying Worker's Compensation (WC) claim cost experience, researchers often prefer models that relate claim characteristics and other cost drivers to the logarithm o f the claim cost, rather than to the dollar cost itself. Linear models based directly on dollars, however, are better suited to decomposing the differences in costs observed over time or between claim populations. Reconciling...

A New Method for Improving Computational Cost of Open Information Extraction Systems Using Log-Linear Model

Information extraction (IE) is a process of automatically providing a structured representation from an unstructured or semi-structured text. It is a long-standing challenge in natural language processing (NLP) which has been intensified by the increased volume of information and heterogeneity, and non-structured form of it. One of the core information extraction tasks is relation extraction wh...

Friction Compensation for Dynamic and Static Models Using Nonlinear Adaptive Optimal Technique

Friction is a nonlinear phenomenon which has destructive effects on performance of control systems. To obviate these effects, friction compensation is an effectual solution. In this paper, an adaptive technique is proposed in order to eliminate limit cycles as one of the undesired behaviors due to presence of friction in control systems which happen frequently. The proposed approach works for n...

Health risk factors as predictors of workers' compensation claim occurrence and cost

OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to examine the predictive relationships between employee health risk factors (HRFs) and workers' compensation (WC) claim occurrence and costs. METHODS Logistic regression and generalised linear models were used to estimate the predictive association between HRFs and claim occurrence and cost among a cohort of 16 926 employees from 314 large, medium an...
